elevator power conversion

The first elevators installed in San Francisco buildings used DC (Direct Current) drives to power hoist traction motors. DC drive powered elevators can still be found around the city but are in many cases, being replaced by AC (Alternating Current) drive. Modern AC drives are compact and efficient.

In this Jones St. project, when three-phase power was introduced into the building, the property owners deciding to take the opportunity to modernize the elevator at the same time.
